AN ANCIENT GIUDECCA IN THE MEDIEVAL CITY

A Jewish community in Lecce is thought to have formed after the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem, when Titus ordered 5000 prisoners of war to be transferred also to Apulia. New studies found traces in the Medieval city of the ancient Giudecca, which was razed to the ground after the expulsions of 1510 and 1541. Names of the streets recorded this presence.
