Soragna

IN THE SHADOW OF THE ROCCA

Soragna was governed for centuries by the Princes Meli Lupi, whose descendants still live in the Rocca, the fortress opposite the current synagogue-museum. Jews came to the city after being forced to leave Parma in1555 and then Piacenza in 1570. Soragna was one of the towns in which Duke Ottavio Farnese allowed the Jews to open lending banks. Jews lived in tranquility thanks to the tolerant attitude of the Meli Lupi toward them.
