JEWS INTEGRATED IN CIVIL SOCIETY
A small group lived in town as early as the 15th century. The group was mainly involved in trade and money-lending, businesses under Savoy concession. In 1740 the ghetto was created and only in1848, after the Restoration, the ghetto era ended and the community decided to build the present large Neo-Moorish synagogue. Many of Jews of Vercelli, who were now fully integrated in civil society, took on important roles in the life of the City and the State.
