A LONG PERIOD OF ABSENCE

Jews lived in Parma during two distinct periods: the 15th through 16thcenturies, and from the XIX century, after around 200 year period of absence. The Papal Bull of 1555, which established ghettoes and limitations for the Jews in the papal territories, had led to the expulsions from  Parma and Piacenza. Duke Ottavio Farnese had permitted them to open loan banks in sixteen towns in the surrounding.
